A car with a manual transmission costs less than the same model with an automatic. In most cases, the manual version of a car will indeed cost less, but in some instances, it’s the same price as
Manual FTW Descending a Steep hill + 1st gear + 4LO + not having to touch the brakes = priceless I usually start off in 2nd gear when I’m in 4LO to make it a little smoother and less jolting when starting off. If you know how to drive a manual well, the rolling backwards, stalling, and clutch slipping aren’t really as much of an issue. Drove an hour and half after scheduling and appointment to look at the truck. Showed up didnt even have the mats in the truck still working on cleaning it. Test drove it and had a horrible shake due to both axles being horribly rusted. Tried to negotiate the price and they came down 1k. Dont buy this truck until they fix it”
A manual would be nice in instances where you’re changing directions fast or need to get some horsepower to the ground. It’s hard to beat a hydraulic clutch manual on it the bush because you don’t have linkages to bind up. The very low first gear is nice but the torque converter in an automatic can make up for that for the most part.
Locking hubs seem to be a thing of the past. All the new 4wd’s I’ve looked at have an automatic actuator for the front axles. Shift into 4wd HI or 4wd LO on my new Silverado (manual t-case; special ordered) and the fronts are engaged. You have to pull the 4wd fuse to get 2wd LO range.
I personally would never have this truck paired with an automatic transmission, the manual transmission is the only saving grace and it barely keeps the engine on the positive side for me. On a much more positive note though, the truck performs fantastically if you do any 4wd off roading. Oh I see people commenting on gas.
I’ve owned Jeeps with both type of transmission, and would say the automatic was more versatile in general, and better offroad than the manual. In particular the automatic offered very precise low speed control due to the smooth engagement of the torque converter, which I found valuable on rocky trails in Colorado.
This 4-Wheel-Drive system allows the driver to manual shift from 2WD to 4WD Hi without stopping first. These systems typically have a speed limit at which you can engage the system; typically it’s under 60 mph. OHVs that use an electronic actuator (like a push-button vs a shift lever) will only allow shifting to 4WD-Hi while under the rated speed, so pushing the button will not attempt to
Auto vs. manual transmission: Data-driven tech better than complete control? Equipment. “In this context, an automatic for a Class 8 truck is usually fully automatic, like a typical car
