White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that Washington cannot yet answer the question about possible further new contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Joe Biden, but maintains contact on this topic with Moscow. Her words are quoted by TASS.
“I have nothing to announce or predict at the moment,” Psaki said, adding that during the summit held in Geneva in the summer, the United States maintains high-level contacts with Russian colleagues.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov revealed information about the preparation of the summit of the leaders of the two countries. According to him, the situation with a possible meeting between Putin and Biden should be clarified soon. The diplomat said that at this stage we are talking about non-face-to-face contact, which, in his opinion, does not reduce the significance of the event.
The last talks between Putin and Biden took place on June 16 in Geneva at Villa La Grange. The presidents talked for three and a half hours. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the meeting had a beneficial effect on the work on strategic stability and arms control.
