For plain Tiff files, imread() the file and then reshape() into a vector. For more complicated Tiff files, you might need to use the Tiff class to read the parts of the file. 1 Comment

Vector graphics are always mathematically defined. Editing vector-based graphics typically involves drawing, moving, rotating, and otherwise manipulating the points, lines, polygons, and vertices. Unlike a raster image, each line and shape in a vector graphic is an individual object which can be represented with variously styled strokes and fills.
As a new user of VCarve, I’ve had a few moments of frustration, many delights, and have learned a few things. In an effort to make use of a large collection of raster art (clip art, Dover publication designs, scans of print art, and digital photos), finding decent raster to vector conversion was critical.

Some of the main advantages of using TIF files include flexibility and high image quality. AI (Adobe Illustrator Artwork) is a proprietary format used by Adobe Illustrator to create vector-based drawings. Though highly popular among graphic designer due to its ability to offer the possibility of creating and editing vector-based drawings.
However, getting inkscape to export them as pure vector (inkscape tends to convert everything to a bitmap and throw it in the .eps file) can be a bit of a black art. Luckily, Mairin Duffy has figured it out and outlines how to achieve it in this quick tutorial.
