The European Union has sent a demand to Polish representatives to pay a fine for violations in the work of the country’s judicial system, the Reuters news agency reports.
The EU Commission reported that for refusing to comply with the decision of the European Court of Justice on the abolition of the disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court, Poland must pay a fine within 45 days. The total amount of compensation will be about 70 million euros.
On October 27 last year, the EU Court of Justice made a corresponding decision and ordered Poland to be fined one million euros per day until the execution of the court decision. It was criticized by the Polish authorities. In their opinion, the reform of the national judicial system lies exclusively within the competence of the sovereign Polish Republic.
