All 2p orbitals are degenerate because they are equivalent. 2p orbitals and 2s orbitals are not degenerate. An orbital is a function describing the position of an electron. Less technically, you would say hydrogen has a 1s orbital. Shell describes the principal quantum number, n, or 1, in the case of hydrogen.

As we have just seen, however, quantum mechanics also predicts that in the hydrogen atom, all orbitals with the same value of n (e.g., the three 2p orbitals) are degenerate Having the same energy., meaning that they have the same energy.
“In hydrogen, all orbitals with the same principal quantum number ‘n’ (1,2,3) are degenerate, regardless of the orbital angular momentum quantum number ‘l’ (0,1n-1 or s,p,d,). However, in atoms with more than one electron, orbitals with different values of l for a given value for n are not degenerate.

Atomic Orbitals and Quantum Numbers levels (the orbitals). n: principal quantum number, gives the energy, gives the size, shell, row. degenerate orbitals) *Electrons repel each other => try not to pair up electrons, try for maximum
These quantum numbers include the three that define orbitals, as well as s, or spin quantum number. Thus, two electrons may occupy a single orbital, so long as they have different values of s . However, only two electrons, because of their spin, can be associated with each orbital.
Unit II-degenerate orbitals- orbitals with the same l value- Subshell. e. Electrons in orbitals will have Spin Quantum Number (s)- which defines either a clockwise or counterclockwise spin of the electrons (s = + ? or – ? ) – Parallel spins- electrons with same spin So we know that all matter is made up of atoms, but what is an atom made out
