.The Fort Worth Stockyards is a historic district that is located in Fort Worth, Texas, north of the central business district. The 98-acre (40 ha) district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Fort Worth Stockyards Historic District in 1976. They are a former livestock market which operated under various owners from 1866.
The Fort Worth Stockyards was one of the largest livestock markets in the United States and a defining factor for the community. Beginning in the 1870’s with the arrival of the railroad, it served as a major employment center, reaching its peak in 1944, when it processed over 5 million cattle.

FORT WORTH STOCKYARDS.The Fort Worth Stock Yards were officially incorporated on March 23, 1893, and the corporation was dissolved on May 31, 1944, but those who purchased it at the later date continued operations under the same name until November 1, 1981, when they leased the facilities to a company that continued using the same name.
